ABOUT US
Sam and Mary Jane Roop wanted to do a family project with their three small children. They wanted to incorporate the farm, family, and agricultural education.
In 1996 Brookfield Pumpkins was born. We started with one acre of pumpkins and gourds. We found our first year that the public loved the experience of being on the farm.
As our number of pumpkins grew so did our children. Julie, Lauren, and Jake were all in elementary school when the pumpkin patch started. The girls painted faces for a quarter, while Jake helped by picking gourds and pumpkins.
Julie has a degree in agricultural business and education and works in Washington DC for the American Farm Bureau Federation. She is a huge asset to our operation—helping at the patch almost every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in October and is in charge of our social media and marketing. Lauren is currently serving in Germany as a missionary for the Black Forest Academy. She still uses her artistic skills to make beautiful projects you can find at the patch. Jake is now in college in Wheaton, Illinois. He spends his summers designing and cutting the Corn Maze for the Cure. We look forward to his fall breaks when he is able to help out with the patch.
Brookfield Farm has been in the Ramsburg/Roop family for over 100 years. The Roop children represent the sixth generation to be raised on the farm. Sam stays busy 12 months out of the year working full time on the farm. He raises corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay. He also raises dairy replacement heifers and dry cows for a local dairy farm.
